Near the end of last year Ortwin had worked on something new and very exciting for us.
Some of you may know that Ortwin is very familiar with the Mokume Gane technique and we have provided our customers with the option of incorporating this craft into their pieces for years.
Additionally, we have also provided our customers with the option of getting their gold pieces made of Fairtrade Gold rather than standard gold. Fairtrade Gold is gold which is overlooked by the Fairtrade organisation to make sure that miners receive the Fairtrade Price and Premium. This in turn develops mining communities.
Mokume Gane and Fairtrade Gold are two aspects that we pride ourselves in. But never had we incorporated the two together.
In September 2018, Ortwin handmade a wedding band. However, it was unlike any wedding band that we’d ever made before here at Ortwin Thyssen Master Jewellery Maker’s. The ring incorporated the Mokume Gane technique whilst consisting of only Fairtrade Golds.
This is a big step forward for us and we’re proud to be able to provide our customers with a technique as intricate as Mokume Gane in an ethical way.
We wanted to share with you a few of the moments that it took to create the very first Fairtrade Gold Mokume Gane piece.
