About us
Ortwin Thyssen Jewellery Maker is a small independent Jewellery Workshop and Shop situated in the historic city of Canterbury, Kent. Behind the cosy Showroom lies a vast range of technical skills and equipment as much as ingenuity to push the borders of jewellery making further and further. We like creating beautifully hand-crafted unique pieces tailored to customers' individual requirements and budgets. Work is mostly undertaken in platinum, yellow or white gold and palladium - but pieces in Silver, Stainless Steel, can be created.
I worked previously behind the scenes designing, making and repairing pieces of jewellery for other retailers, I now enjoy meeting the customers in my own shop and workshop. I have twenty-three years of jewellery making experience. After a classical apprenticeship in Muenster, Germany, where | was carefully trained in all the basic and many special techniques like chasing and granulation, I graduated as a Jewellery designer. In 1998 my whole family moved to Canterbury and since then I have worked here as Jewellery designer and diamond mounter.
In 2008 the company was joined by Isabelle Capitain and Melanie Bushrod. They are trained as goldsmith and jewellery-designer (BA) and work at the bench with me.
Customers are able to benefit from our pool of professional experience, when we are creating their very own 'piece' of jewellery - either from new, or by remodelling old or inherited jewellery. A complimentary in-depth design consultation is offered where the customer can be completely involved in the creation, step by step, of their own exclusive piece of jewellery.
The shop is a 'small' environment and pride is taken in being able to keep all overheads low - fairly uniquely in unison with my own workshop. I take pride in being able to keep all overheads low. I am dealing direct with selected diamond and stone suppliers to source specially to my customers requirements. That is how I can offer excellent value for money. Do contact or visit us- you'll enjoy the experience.
